everybody just calm down and read the soothing words of tate-blog
Let's work through these serious issues.
Some people are upset that I haven't constructed some sort of shrine to them in my blog, while others are mad that they aren't the only cool people that read my blog anymore, and I'm all flustered because of all the pressure.
I love you all. Whoever is reading this, I feel like so much da bombness that you want to take the time (even if it's because you're bored or procrastinating) to read the words I so wisely choose to post on these pages. I always thought that these online journal things were silly and outdated, but I have come to love it. A lot. So, just know that I jump up and down with joy every time you leave me a comment or I hear that you've read the blog, because it makes it worth writing. And living.

Emily and Justin, if you abandon the tate-blog, I won't know what to do with my life anymore. It will for sure be the end of all this greatness. So don't get all...whatever and leave just because everyone else jumped on the bandwagon. Then you'd be like fairweather fans. And I love you too much to lose your loyalty.

Ah Mark Poshak. Emily and Justin actually owe you for re-inspiring the blog writing. Who knows where we'd be without you. And who knows where I would have been without you at Thanksgiving. Bored crazy with all the old people, probably. (No offense parents and Poshaks.) Thanks for coming in town, and for being my fake brother.

William and Dustin. I don't know how much you two actually frequent the blog, but I love you for it. You guys are two of my favorite boys ever. Even though I'm a few years older than you, I'm really glad I get to be friends with you because y'all da bombness.
It is good to be back in Lawrence. Kirkwood just isn't as exciting these days. I got to come back Saturday night so I could hang out with Melissa on her b-day, and that was sweet. We made her this cake and decked ourselves out in streamers.

Melissa Hartnett is seriously da bomb. First off, she is a really good and patient listener. I like the times when she goes to her house in Manhattan but her cell phone doesn't work there so then I call her house phone and talk about life. Calling someone on their parents' house phone means you're really good friends, just so you know.

I met this Melissa chick when we were being RAs together. That year was rough and somehow I didn't really have friends outside the dorm and Melissa was like my only girlfriend. And then it somehow happened that she wanted to live with me last year, and the rest is historia. (That's spanish because Melissa speaks spanish.) Anyway Melissa, you are a great friend and I am so glad we share our little crappy apartment on Kentucky Street.
Oh yeah and Melissa is da bomb because we cleaned up puke the other day in our apartment and she did most of the work. It was sick. Who stays in someone's apartment they don't really know, pukes on the floor in the bedroom, and then leaves without cleaning it up OR saying anything to anybody? Uh, all I know is that we're gonna start charging for people to stay the night here. Dang, we could make some serious money off that.
Ok and then of course, there is the Miss Katie Dennis who turned 20 on Friday. We got to celebrate her birthday tonight at our usual Monday night dinner establishment, Cici's.

Katie Dennis and I have only been friends for like 2 and a half months, but I would consider her one of my BFFs. She is a crazy girl, and she has already gone through some kind-of hard things with me this semester, so Katie Dennis, I love your life. Thanks for being my friend even though I'm like that 'creepy old' (to use Justin's words) girl that hangs around with all the sophomores. You have made this freakin' sweet semester even sweeter. You and me and Emily are like a match made in heaven. Or something less lame sounding.
Tonight I put a piece of Tinsel in my mouth from the 1612 house, and Maggie and Emily then called me Tinsel Tate. This led to the greatest name-making game ever: giving everybody a Christmas name. Here's what we have so far:
Tinsel Tate
Jingle Jen
Mistletoe Maggie
Eggnog Emily
Snowflake Steve
Little Town of Bethlehem Linsie (until we can think of a shorter name)
Angel Abbey
Gingerbread Justin
Frankincense Fogleman
Myrrh Micah
Manger Melissa
Candy Cane Katie Dennis
Peppermint Pat Downes
Dasher Danielle (or until we think of something better)
Ok I think that's all for now. But man, that was fun to come up with.
Finally, some words of wisdom.
Wise words from Jen Wilson:
This was in respose to the thought-provoking edited lyrics of Kanye West that say, "I ain't saying she a gold digger, but she ain't messin with no broke broke."
"I'm glad they gave something for the white people to say there."
Wise words from Steve Sweat (paraphrased by me):
"It's kind-of like this. Say you're in the emperor's family. And then Marcus* came and killed your whole family. A year later, he would probably just be like, 'haha remember when I killed your whole family?' But you would still be like, 'yeah that actually still hurts a lot to remember.'"
And these are two of my favorite Steve wisdom quotes:
"It's like sports Tate. You have to visualize getting over it."
"Tate, there's growth to be had here."
*Names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Well that should be sufficient. This probably took me an hour when I should have been working on a paper and presentation for Thursday, but whatever, I only have to go to 10 more classes and then I'm done with college forever!! (Probably.)
Much love to you all from Tinsel Tate.

tate-blog is the new facebook
The pressure for tate-blog to be da bomb is heightening. I never really told anyone (except a few friends and my parents) to read the tate-blog, but slowly but surely, it's being discovered. Much like the phenomenon of the facebook a year ago. Pretty soon people from all over the country will be browsing the endless enjoyment of the tate-blog.
Probably not. But I am excited to see readership growing. Not everyone is as excited about the new readers though...
"Getting pissed that everyone reads your blog now." -Justin
"Who does this Mrs. Kristi Benz Atkinson think she is? If she thinks that ingenious and brilliance is brain rotting than yes ma’m I would agree. But moreover I think she might have been doing some sort of hard drugs when she wrote that-mmmm?...." -Ashcraft, in reference to the comment Krisi wrote on the last post
To my newer readers, don't mind them, they're just a little upset that the whole blog doesn't always revolve around them. Also, please don't be disappointed if I don't devote an entire blog entry to you. I did Danielle back when (a couple weeks ago) only a few people read this thing. Now it's exploding.
Last night I started to understand the fascination of my blog. I went back and started reading a bunch of the old posts, and I'm not gonna lie, they're pretty interesting. And now I'm only adding to the pressure. Great.
Just a few of you know that I only started this blog because I had to for a class. That was back when only my teacher and Justin and Emily read it. One time the two of them had left comments on one of my posts, and then the teacher wrote this comment:
"Amanda may have the biggest fan base for her blog in the whole class. Maybe she should sell t-shirts or something?"
So I'm currently taking design ideas for tate-blog t-shirts.
Oh gosh, all the fame is getting to my head. I've gotta calm down. I can't sell-out. I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror. Well, maybe a little bit. I am pretty attractive.

Uh oops. Ok that picture is pretty funny. My cousin Bill and I were having a little photo shoot on the balcony of our condo in Florida a couple years ago. But seriously, look at the wind-blown hair. That's good.
Unfortunately I cannot post any awesome pictures of all my new readers because I am on my parents computer, but check back soon and I will. Time to go shower to get ready to eat dinner at the country club, obviously. Oh the life I lead here in Kirkwood.
Happy birthday Katie Dennis (today) and Melissa Hartnett (tomorrow)!! I love you girls a lot!! Oh man, they will definitely need pictures up in the next 24 hours. Tate-blog is my life during breaks. Just think, Christmas break is a whole month. That's a lot of tate-blog.

Dell=not da bomb
Ok seriously. Dell is driving me crazy. And so is my computer. First off, calling them doesn't work. They put you on hold for like ever. So I've resorted to chatting online with Dell technicians. And while doing so, I'm thinking, why don't these dumb-dumbs stop playing on the internet and answer the phone? Anyway, they gave me a new hard drive, but my computer is still bunk and I think it needs a new fan. So check out part of the convo I had with the dude last night:
Me: "and the fan makes a weird noise that it didn't used to make"
Dell dude: "Is the laptop also heating up from the bottom?"
Me: "yes"
Dell dude: "I would like to know if you have tried cleaning the fan vents or not with a can compressed air?"
(My thoughts: Are you kidding me? who knows to take a can of compressed air to their computer...not to mention what the crap is a can of compressed air?)
Me: "no i would have no idea how to do that"
Dell dude: "Okay, do you have a can of compressed air?"
(My thoughts: what is that and who in world would have that just lying around the house??)
Me: "i don't think so, i don't know what that is"
So Dell real dumb. There's some other issues too, but I won't bore you with the details.
The drive to the Lou yesterday wasn't bad. But I kept getting sad because I didn't have any of my friends with me. For example,
I stopped in Kingdom City to get gas and I saw the McDonalds where Emily and Jub and I stopped when we came to here in October for Six Flags.
Then I drove by that huge strip mall thing in Chesterfield and thought about how David Keim and Jub and I lived there a few weeks ago...Sonic, jumping over fountains, trust fall into a bush, driving Jeff Burgess' car, eating lunch with staff at Applebee's and Olive Garden, and of course, Lion's Choice. Oh man that was a good place. The more I look back on that weekend, the more I am so glad we went.
And then finally I got to my house last night and went to check the facebook (obviously) and the email that came up automatically was Emjo11@ku.edu. And then I was sad that me and her weren't sharing a bed.
But anyway I'll live. Although I also watched that sweet Jen birthday video last night and almost cried. I love my friends.
Today I ate lunch with my dad and Kelsey. Kelsey says to me, "Hey guess what I found on the internet the other day? I am the Tate." Yes. Everybody's reading it. And now that she's found it, she gets a picture:

That's her and my friend John Reis being da bomb at Alison's wedding.
Kelsey came to visit us all at KU last year for like 2 hours for a CRU kickball game. Justin was excited to meet her because she's one of his possible dates to my funeral. I told him that I would set up dates for all of my KU guy friends with my friends from high school to take to my funeral. Which, I mean, I don't plan on being any time soon, but whatever. Just let me know though if you want me to set up a date for you to go with to my funeral. I'm all about it.
Ok, Emily's gonna get ticked off if there's not a picture of her soon, so...

That's us on the way to DCC last year....who's getting excited?? I know I am. Hopefully it won't be as dramatic as last year and will just be flippin' sweet instead.
Speaking of dramatic times from last year that I never want to relive...

Ah x-team retreat. Coming again a week from Friday.

Oh sure. He looks sweet and innocent there. Just wait until you try to play Catch Phrase with him. Uh...awkward....
Enough about that. It's time to go take a nap or watch a movie or something.
I miss you people already.

This isn't real
I'm in the Union computer lab right now about to start writing a thrilling essay about formulation, implementation and evaluation of the No Child Left Behind policy. Sick. But I just wanted to give a shout out to my avid readers (does that phrase make sense?) to tell you to not worry because a good tate blog will come soon enough. I'll even write multiple times on this thansving break probably. So check back soon I love you.
Things to look forward to about going to Kirkwood:
-Mel and Gar
-Watching movies on our huge sweet TV
-My fat dogs
-The rest of my family--including my g-parents and my famous cousin that broadcasts for the Reds
-Watching K-Wood dominate on Webster in the Turkey Day game at home
-The Poshaks
-My married friends
-All my other friends
-Eating turkey and mashed potatoes
-Ted Drewes
Ok the list goes on but I gotta write my paper now. Hasta luego.

Yella Yella Yella
As I am typing this, I have no idea where this blog entry is going. So, the first thing that comes to mind is...
Danielle Firsching.
Also known as Yella, Mandel, Melba Toast, Dani, Danielle Fishell, Daniel, etc. I got so happy when I saw that she read my blog, plus she's sitting near me right now, so she is the inspiration today.
So let's tell a little story about Dani. We met back in 2002 when she was a regular attender of my McCollum Bible study. Yeah that's right. I've been leading the McCollum Bible study for 4 years. I am old.
Anyway, we were friends, but not really friends. Then this night happened:

We went to eat dinner at the plaza with some peeps in December 2003 and pretended to be really good friends in this picture. Really I think it was just that me and her and Mandy Beck were like the only girls there or something. But that lead to a discussion about where we were all living the next year. The three of us decided we should live together. We even discussed the option of living in one of the dorms again. Weird. But anyway, that was probably the birth of our real friendship, kind-of.
The next semester we had a class together, and sometimes we would really randomly hang out. Like one night when we hung out with Micah and Alan before Alan was even in college. We all went bowling. That's pretty funny.
So somewhere down the line Mandy dropped out of the housing situation but Danielle, Melissa and Morgan planned to move in with me and the mysterious Liz Brown. I mean I was excited.
It didn't take long for us to become BFF last year. Danielle introduced me to the Disney Channel so me and her would watch Lizzie McGuire. A lot. It came on at 12:30 am, so if I was gonna be out, I would have her call me a little before to make sure I would come home in time to watch it. I owe Lizzie McGuire a lot for my friendship with Danielle. Here's a picture from the Fall Getaway when we became good friends:

So the beginning of our roommate friendship consisted of Lizzie McGuire, late night hang outs along with Melissa, library study trips, stalking Steven Dragen on the internet.....uh.....what?? Nevermind.
Dani came to St. Louis with me during the worst 3 days of my life. She probably hated it, but I was glad she was there. The one happy moment I remember from that is when we went to the zoo and there was like no one there and a bunch of the animals were cold and inside but I remember being entertained by yelling weird things at the animals and I think I yelled out the a-word for some reason and it was really funny to me. That was when, where and why my "bad language" started. That's a really weird memory. Sorry.
Another one of my favorite things was our spring break trip to Panama City Beach with Crusade. That was incredible. Me and Danielle and Justin held it down. Yeah that was one of my favorite trips. This is us re-inacting one of my other favorite times (when me and her and steve and kyle were doing that weird thing that I can't even describe at the x-team retreat):

Ok I need to go so I need to be done with this. But Dani, you da bomb and I love you and I love that you're my roommate. And thanks for reading my bloggy blog.

Life observations
Gotta please the peeps.
So I haven't written in awhile because I haven't had a lot of inspiration. But I'll see what I can do.
KU football. We got womped on Saturday. So I get text message updates through kusports.com after each quarter. Well first off, they didn't even send me one at the end of the game. I think everyone was already trying to pretend it didn't happen. This was my favorite thing though. At half time, I received this text message:
"UT 52, KU 0. KU is quite possibly looking at its worst loss in 115 years of football."
Thanks. That's really uplifting. But it's okay, at least we scored 2 touchdowns. And I'm sure Ochoa played great.
Current Boggle standings:
Jub: 3
Tate: 1
So I didn't find a spouse last weekend at the conference. Too many boys with hair gel. I am just not a big fan of hair gel on boys, and yet the majority of boys wear hair gel. I don't get it. I just don't really dig that. I mean I love all of those boys, but I just don't understand the trend of hair gel. If you're putting your hair in a mohawk, I'm all for that, but otherwise, I prefer the hair to be gel-less. And I won't settle. Ok maybe I'll settle. Here's my favorite quote of that weekend:
Jub: "Tate, you need to take off that black nail polish so you can meet a nice Christian boy at the conference."
Jeff Burgess: "Eh, they're not all they're cracked up to be."
Thank you Campus Crusade staff representative Jeff Burgess. 15 life points for that comment.
Ok listen that's all I'm gonna say right now. This day has been really busy, what with daily 1 or 2 hour nap and then hanging out with people, so I don't have time to write more things. But look at this picture of me from 2 years ago when I was in Chile and look how different I look:

Weird.
Jub: 3
Tate: 1

Boggle your mind
First off, if anyone has any revelation on what I should do with my life in the near future, please let me know. I feel like the story of my life in recent years is that just when I think I have things figured out, they change and get all confusing again. Ok that's borderline too serious for tate blog. Oops.
Emily Ashcraft I don't ever want to leave you either.

In other news, I'm excited to inform you that I've joined the facebook group called "Kerry Benson: Men Want Her, Women Want To Be Her." It was a happy moment when I discovered that group.
Mr. Ochoa and I had a confontation at the drinking fountain right before class yesterday. All I could think of in my head was, oh man, what if he found my blog somehow? Justin is telling me that I should just go up to him after class and be like, "Hey have you ever thought about asking me out? Because I'd go on a date with you." I'll consider this option. But I would prefer to pass a note during class. We'll see.
In the beginning of class, I overheard Ochoa ask the girl next to me if she thought Benson noticed when he wasn't there. With no hesitation I immediately turned to him and said, "Well one time you were gone and she referred to you as Mr. Blue Wings Rising." Okay. Maybe I jumped on that a little too quick. He didn't seem to notice that I've been waiting to tell him that for the past 2 weeks.
So just now I started thinking about how I have a link to this blog in my facebook profile, and that anyone from my class could just happen to click on that and find out about my weird obsessions--namely Allison, who sits between me and Ochoa, or Ochoa himself. Man that's so awkward I love it. Although if any of you are reading this, my disclaimer is that my secret crush/obsession on Ochoa is mostly for entertainment purposes. And you better leave me a comment. And let's be friends.
Ochoa quote of the day from yesterday: "I wish I was outside flying a kite."
Moving on, this past weekend was da bomb. On Friday, the girls dressed up for the CRU costume party as Farewell to Ashlyn and groupies. Of course I would be the one to dress up as my ex-boyfriend for Halloween. One of my favorite things nowadays about my former relationship with Micah Thomas is that we love to do and say things that go against the social norms of breaking up. Just be warned, if you're around the two of us for more than about 10 minutes, expect us to make every attempt to make things awkward. Just ask Katie Dennis. She got some of the best of it a couple weeks ago.
Anyway, here's a few of my favorite pix.

Here's the whole group: Danielle being Leah, Melissa being Kyle, Linsie being me, Jen being Steve, me being Micah, and Emily smoking a pipe being Alan.

Linsie and I tried to take lots of awkward pictures together.

This is by far my favorite. Oh gosh, so good.

Overall, the whole thing turned out way better than we thought it would. I'd be willing to say it was the most entertaining Halloween costumes I've ever had.
Putting pictures on my blog isn't as exciting anymore now that we can put pictures on the freaking facebook. Oh well.
Oh yeah, let's talk about this. So a week ago, I had kind-of an awkward, not very good night. Plus I had drank a decaf mocha, which I found out later that decaf espresso still has 10% caffeine in it. Obviously. So Justin brings me home and I feel pretty weird about life. But this led to one of my favorite obsessions as of late.
I was sitting on the couch with my computer being flustered Tate. You know, the one that's saying "I hate my life" and being really weird and extreme about things. The Tate that the boys don't really want to mess with so they just do what I want and buy me things. (Side note: I don't do this on purpose, just so you know.) So I look over at our book shelf and I'm like, "Let's play Boggle." I don't know if I was being serious or what, but suddenly I thought, yeah, Boggle is what is necessary right now.
So Justin, not wanting to play but wanting to make frustrated Tate happier, sits down to a game of Boggle with me at like 2 in the morning. And here starts the obsession. Justin and Tate obsessions are so good. Like: Internet in Chile, Krikos, Dave Chookazsian and Mike Werner and Jenny Brazile, Poker, Donkey Kong, And 1 Mix Tape Tour, Super Nintendo Jeopardy, Tennis Class, Boohbah...
Current Boggle standings:
Jub: 2
Tate: 1
Finally, Jen's Birthday thingy thing was Saturday night. It was good times. I love that girl. I don't know what I'd do without her. And just to update, all the secrets I was hiding were our costumes, Jen's birthday party and the birthday video I made for her. I didn't know what to do with myself after the weekend was over. It was like the culmination of my life for the past couple weeks. That doesn't even make sense. Here's the party people:

I had everyone share poems for Jen. But funny ones, definitely not serious ones. Oh man, it was so funny. You've got Kyle and Steve just saying completely ridiculous things, Nathan getting the whole group to sing, and everyone else just being da bomb. Good work people, Jen loved it.

We are attractive.
Well tomorrow I go to a conference in St. Louis to figure out my life and find a spouse. Wish me luck.
