marriage and babies

In the spring 2005 I was in some sort of American studies class, I don't remember what it was called. It was a pretty sweet class, minus the fact that a certain boy that I had once dated was in the class because we had planned to take the class together back when we actually were dating. Awkward. And really funny now that I think back on it. At least I had Danielle in there too.

I think I got over 100% in that class. That shouldn't even be a college class. Especially not one for seniors. But I'm not complaining. I didn't get many A's back in college.

Anyway, the discussion section of the class was pretty entertaining, led by our teacher Milton. One day in class, Milton was trying to prove some sort of point, so he went around the class and had everyone say what they wanted to do as a career.

When it came to me, I said something like, "Well I just want to be a mom. I mean I know I'll probably have to have some other job at least for awhile, but ideally I'd just be a mom for a living."

I was the only one in the class that said anything like that. I think Milton was a little surprised, and probably a litte ticked off that I didn't want to "make something of my life" or whatever.

But honestly, that's what I want to do. I'm not a career woman. I just want to do ministry and get married and have some babies.

This makes things complicated though. Unlike striving to be the next CNN reporter, which is what many of my friends from the School of Journalism are probably trying to do, you can't really strive to be someone's wife. It's not like I can work on my wife and mother resume and get some sort of wife internship and try to get better at being a wife so that I can work my way up to get the job of being a mom.

It doesn't work like that.

Nope. I just have to chill out, do what I do, love God, and hopefully some sweet boy someday will be like, hey marry me and then let's have babies. Until then, I will try not to let my future ambitions of being married cause so much drama in my life.

Tate, chill out on the marriage/baby talk.

Fair enough.

Camp has begun. And I love it...I think. There are some definite challenges, but all in all, I'm glad to be there. I love the people, I love the camp, I love the Jesus, it's all good.

We've had three days of training so far in which all we did was go over the handbook. Fun stuff. Then we had two days of the Altar Weekend. Then I came back to Lawrence. And now we don't start again until Tuesday. So it's been pretty slow moving and a bit boring at times. But let me tell you, it's way better than stress.

Justin has been hanging out with me since like 3:30, and I think he's pretty bored. He's currently sleeping on the couch. I mean I guess I understand since all we've done is watch TV and go to church and watch more TV and go to Quik Trip and watch more TV. I at least have been productive in there and packed up some of my room.

Tomorrow. 3:45. X-Men III. I've been waiting three years for this.

I'm gonna go see if we can maybe finish off the night with something a little more exciting. Probably we won't think of anything. Oh hold up...

Sherpa ball. We look happy, but we just lost our third game in a row.

I don't know what happened, but we're not very good anymore. And now that everyone is gone for the summer, we probably won't get any better. And unfortunately I'm not all that great at pitching.

But at least I look good doing it. Especially with that hottie second baseman behind me. Although she won't be there anymore, and I will cry constantly.

One last thing. During finals week Jub and Pat and I tried to go to Worlds of Fun. We thought we could get in free because little Jub used to work there.

No such luck. Freaking Nick whatever his name is never called back or showed up, so we sat outside the park for like an hour and a half. I complain like it was really lame, but it was actually pretty entertaining.

Like when this bird attacked me and was attached to my shirt. Creepy. And hilarious.

Or when Justin and I took this sweet dating/newlywed picture...

The better part is when I was looking at this on the computer at camp and four random people walked by and stopped and pointed and are now convinced we're dating.

We're not dating. At all.

No no, I only have interest in people who are at least two years younger than me apparently. Thus is my fate.

To end, a quote from the great YouthFront staff member Eric Vene...something. He was saying this is what Jesus would have said to Thomas after Thomas doubted him:

Hey Thomas, you're not gonna get a book of the Bible. You're gonna get a book in the Apocrypha, and it's gonna suck!

That guy is funny.

butt punching

Things got weird last night.

We were watching the video footage of the boxing match of the century: Derek Evans vs. Matt Morrow-Howell. Why they were boxing, I don't really know. But I think after the viewing the boys were thinking in their head about how much it would get hurt to get punched in different places. Or maybe it was just Micah thinking that.

Because 5 minutes later, Micah says to me, "Hey punch me in the stomach." At first I refused, but he insisted. I mean it really didn't take much insisting, let's be honest.

So I start punching him a lot of times in the stomach and he was making fun of me for not hitting very hard and I continued to wail on him to the point where Jen had to jump in and hold me back.

Then the other boys wanted to try. So I punched Jub several times in the gut and Steve just once. My hand started hurting.

Then we started discussing whether it would hurt to get punched in the butt. So then the three boys start punching each other really hard in the butt.

Then they looked at me.

Basically, in the end, Justin Hume punched me as hard as he could in the butt. Everyone lost it. Yeah, that was just weird. But worth it.

Yesterday the family graduated.

We are so cute.

This is the original classic family photo...

I'm so glad this family formed, even though it was pretty dysfunctional for a long time. That's just what happens when people break up.

Here's Dani and me walking through the Campanile, I love this one...

I already had walked through the Campanile though, just because I like to prove I don't believe in superstitions.

Jub and I bailed out after we walked down the hill and through the stadium since we had the big softball game to get to, but it was still cool and worth it. Walking down that hill with all the people watching makes you feel like a celebrity. I mean, look at us...

We are famous people.

Anyway. Emjo and I went on a "double date" on Friday. I still think it's a little unreal that this whole thing actually happened. We asked two random dudes we barely know out on a double date through one of their facebook walls; made them cards with construction paper and stencils; took them to Quik Trip, the batting cages and to my apartment to watch High School Musical; and that was it. I'm pretty glad it happened.

Emjo and I are now separated for the summer. Well, I'll see her one more time, but then she's off to Vail and I'm at camp. But I think we will survive this time and continue our BFFness in the fall.

Jen and I are headed off to camp on Wednesday.

Praise the Lord we're both in this together again. I can't believe it's been a whole year. Camp this year will definitely have a different feel for multiple reasons, but I think all in all, it will be awesome. I am just excited to love my camper girls and to be used by God to teach them about Him. That's what it's all about.

And now I need to move on with my busy day of getting my car back from Steve, going to the dry cleaners, playing softball, and beginning the camp packing process.

If you want, go have someone punch you in the butt. Preferably someone you know, but whatever. I promise it doesn't hurt. Much.

the pictures tell it all

In response to a certain comment, and because I believe the time is now right, I'm about to make a classic tateblog move.

Maggie Shehan. You are a delight.

I met little Maggles back when she was a senior in high school. At that time, I was friends with her older brother, Pat. And that, by the way, is really weird to think about. Hang on just a second and let's remember my early junior year days when I hung out with these freakin' sweet freshmen sometimes...

Oh man, those were the days. Sometimes I forget they existed. Sarah Turner transfered, Katie Hansen is engaged, Emily Duckworth (not pictured) is dating my ex-boyfriend and I love it, Pat...I almost never even see, and Maffro is dominating on the kickball field. That's all I know.

Anyway, back to Maggie. So I guess she came to visit KU and Pat and all that, and was staying with my three St. Louis girls. I don't really remember much else besides meeting this girl who was Pat's sister.

Then she came to KU in the fall, and I apparently didn't remember her. Oops. My bad. She thought I didn't like her, or maybe she didn't like me or something because I guess I had to ask her name a few times. Sorry Maggles.

So we were friends throughout the year, but not really good friends. And then this year came around and we were a little better friends, but possibly there were certain circumstances keeping us from being really good friends still.

Maybe that's why were fighting to the death with these poles at Fall Getaway. But we were both always BFF with Emily, and that brought us together.

Then I went to New Orleans, and when I came back, things really escalated quickly. I don't really know what I mean by that, except that Maggie moved up from friend status to really good friend status. We've shared in things now like GUTS, gymnasty, hot tub, Emjo, Sherpa softball, being big big whoopie, etc. It's been real.

So Maggles, you da bomb, and basically I'm glad we're friends. And just now I got really sad because we won't be around each other much for the next year or so as we go our separate ways. But just know that I have had a lot of fun being friends with you since I've been back in Lawrence and you made my transition back to here a little bit sweeter.

Ah, romantic sunset shot.

That picture is one of the many taken this weekend, which has already been pretty sweet, and we haven't even had our softball game yet today.

Thursday night we had outdoor CRU. It was cool and was reminding me/getting me excited for camp. We just sang some songs and heard some people say a few sweet things, it was good. Here's us anxiously awaiting the start.

After that was the big Mountain Dewd kickball event. I love kickball. I got tackled by Evan Torren at one point, which was actually less painful than expected. My team lost the first game and then we switched teams around and my team won the second game.

I worked on Stop Day when everyone else was off having fun/sleeping/playing softball. But it's fine, I like my job. At night on stop day though, we traveled out to Lone Star Lake for some good times.

That's one of my poignant/emo shots. The main reason we were going was because people were camping, but I'm usually not a fan of camping, so a bunch of us just went to hang out for awhile.

A bunch of the peeps played a rousing game of Bocce Ball.

And then we went out on the docky thing for the sunset where Justin creepy danced with Emily. We also all lined up and did the Electric Slide on that dock, which scared Emjo a lot because we shook that thing like whoa.

Yesterday we had our little graduation party, which most people forgot to come to, but it was still really fun.

It was a nice day, we set up the sound system in the backyard, played some Bocce Ball and ate a lot of food. Like this beautiful cake...

Mmm.

Well that's all I have to report on at this time, this was mostly just a recap blog. But hopefully there will be a 4th Sherpa win at our 5:00 game today to discuss later.

Happy Mother's Day Mom!

getcha head in the game

To be like xanga...

Currently watching: High School Musical

Starring: Adam Morrison (or Caleb Reasons), Emma Markley, Emjo's BFF from Kickapoo High School, annoying chick, dude that was hogging the guitar game at Best Buy today and was also in the 9th grade social studies class I subbed for with the crazy teacher who likes CAR CRASHES!!

Side note: Emjo just got excited when she saw me writing in this and said, "Shut-up! I've never been a part of this."

High School Musical. It ranks up there as one of my favorite movies ever. I missed its debut because I was in New Orleans where the only TV I watched was SNL DVDs. Oh yeah, and when Justin and I sat in the Good News tent and watched or the little scoreboard at the top of the screen as KU choked once again in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Lame.

Anyway, I love this. I love the poor acting by the basketball coach and Lucas Grabeel's funny little lines about jazz squares and the incredible songs. The only thing I hate is that weird face Troy makes sometimes.

Besides that, the movie is perfect. That Troy Bolton is a hottie though. I mean yeah, he is 18 and I'm 23. Hmm...that sounds a little familiar...

One of my favorite things was the other day I was substitute teaching in the resource room, which is where like special needs kids or bad grades kids go. I was sitting by this girl Stephanie and we became friends when she let me listen to one of the songs from High School Musical with her on her iPod. I was supposed to be making her work, but I was too entertained by being her friend.

News Flash: Lucas Grabeel has his own web site. Check it out.

You know who else has their own web site? Jub Jub. You also need to go check that out, it's ridiculous.

Emjo and Jub and I hit up the batting cages again tonight. We are rock stars in the batting cages.

I love them.

We are not as much rock stars in real life softball. The Fighting Sherpas lost their first game on Sunday. It was a bit heartbreaking. Everything is all fun and happy until our team starts losing. Then it gets heated. All the girls (namely Katie Dennis) got pissed at the boys for them thinking we're not good. Tonight we considered striking. I mean they can't play without girls, right?

Okay I can't strike. I love this crap too much.

We probably just all need to keep in mind that this is REC LEAGUE SLOW-PITCH softball. C-LEAGUE slow-pitch softball at that. It's fine.

The good thing about us losing though is at the end of the game when everyone says, "At least we still get Shasta!" Ah, so true.

So this Saturday is the big graduation party.

We are cute senior friends. Well, technically Jub and I already graduated, but whatever. So if anyone wants to come, it's Saturday and Justin and Tim's from 1-4pm. Be there. It'll be sweet.

"Is this High School Musical or Remember the Titans? Because I've been confused all movie long." -Emjo

Well it's time for the big finales of Breaking Free and We're All in this Together, so I better go. Yeah that's right, it's taken me most of the movie to write this entry, so I hope it makes sense.

Love and baseball.
